5 FASHION TRENDS 2018 TO LEAVE BEHIND IN THE NEW YEAR

With the New Year well and truly in full swing, it is the perfect time to set goals and make changes for the year ahead. Sadly this also means leaving behind some of the fashion trends we picked up in 2018. 2018 was a great year for fashion, with some experimental, crazy and original trends emerging but the constantly evolving nature of the industry means these trends are ever-changing and some must be left behind when a new year arrives. These are the massive trends of 2018 which we predict will not make it to 2019...

1) Clear Plastic Fashion

With a particularly “Kardashian-Obsessed” 2018, when Kim stepped out in these knee-high clear plastic boots, the fashion world went crazy. With real love/hate feedback on these boots, Chanel and other designers jumped on the controversial plastic fashion train, featuring some pieces in their spring/summer collection! With the designer seal of approval, plastic fashion production went into overdrive, with variations of the trend appearing even in high street stores. But the trend was short-lived, with the damaging effects of plastic production on our environment, along with the sweaty, unpractical nature of plastic shoes, I think it is safe to say these will be left behind in 2018!

2) Tiny Sunglasses

90’s fashion made a major comeback in 2018 and we don’t think this trend could be any more 90’s if it tried! Tiny sunglasses is a trend which went CRAZY this summer, you couldn’t walk down the street without seeing 20 pairs of these tiny sunglasses! For many years, sunglasses were worn large and the bigger the better! So when supermodels such as Bella and Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner started rocking this 90’s trend, we didn't know what to think! But since then it seems as though everyone owns a pair of tiny sunglasses

With their practicality being questioned- “do they actually keep the sun out of your eyes?” we are wondering if this is a trend which will disappear into 2018 or if they will re-emerge when the 2019 sun makes an appearance!

3) Micro-Handbags

Cute? Yes. Practical? I don’t think so...

These tiny handbags have taken the fashion world by storm this year and have been key items in many celebrity wardrobes, with many designers such as Louis Vuitton and Guess bringing out micro versions of their best selling bags. They are cute but we can help but question what anyone is possibly fitting inside them! With that being said, we predict they will not be making it into 2019...

4) Dad trainers

Stylish yet comfy footwear is always a massive yes in our books. But when the Dad trainer trend, led by designers such as Balenciaga, arrived we weren’t ready for it! With highstreet stores offering cheaper alternatives, these shoes will be everywhere in 2019! Notoriously hard to style, they became massive on the streetwear scene in 2018 becoming a staple in many wardrobes. After months of trying to make this chunky footwear look fashionable, we predict that it will be left in 2018….

5) Animal Print?

This is a trend we can’t seem to let go of! Leopard print and snake prints have taken over our wardrobes in autumn 2018, with pretty much every store, (designer or not) embracing the trend!

Is 2019 time to move on from these prints? Or will they continue to be just as popular as we continue into 2019? We will see…
